During the survey phase of Alto de Bomba, it became evident that a community garden in a significant state of degradation functioned as a meeting place for different generations of residents, particularly older inhabitants.
With the aim of structuring sustained forms of engagement with local residents, the Outros Bairros team established a regular presence at this site every Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., regardless of whether there was a specific issue to discuss.Through this ongoing routine, the decision was collectively made with residents to transform the garden into a public square, subsequently named Praça Nho Jon. Approximately six months after the completion of the works, the continued Wednesday gatherings, combined with the desire to connect Alto de Bomba with references and experiences from other parts of the world, gave rise to the Praça Nho Jon Project. This initiative consisted of a series of conversations bringing together local residents, invited guests from outside Cabo Verde, and Cape Verdean participants from diverse fields of practice.
